About
After successful projects with Mike Young at The Fields Golf Club, we were hired to help restore A.W. Tillinghast’s only design in Tennessee back to its original character. Armed with the club’s extensive historical documentation and our own research, we devised a unique bunkering style that honoured Tillinghast while reducing the overall bunker footprint and maintenance costs.
Our shaping on this project feels unique in the Tillinghast oeuvre, but seeks to blend seamlessly with the landscape while providing ample challenge for all players. Additional tree clearing, drainage, and grassing were performed to improve agronomics and playability.
Notes
We devised a unique bunkering style that honoured A.W. Tillinghast by drawing on lessons learned from the UK regarding grassy hollows and other features common to early 20th-century architecture. The final shaping blends seamlessly with the landscape while providing ample challenge for all players.
